what is networking?

Sunshine Holets: Computer networking is an engineering discipline that aims to study and analyze the communication process among various computing devices or computer systems that are linked, or networked, together to exchange information and share resources.

Clemente Schoeck: A computer network is a system for communication among two or more computers. These networks may be fixed (cabled, permanent) or temporary (as via modems).

Tyrone Disanti:

Jesse Pirieda: wtf is depelonis? are you trying to access the neighbours wifi for free?

Porfirio Cahall:

Ulysses Failey: connecting multiple computers through the same internet.

Season Confalone: Uh what's this? It is quite elementary word yet broad at the same time; but networking in computer is about enabling sharing of information and data and computer resources between multiple computers.

Houston Venezia: and how does it work

Elden Dedon: (row´ter) (n.) A device that forwards ! data packets along networks. A router is connected to at least two networks, commonly two LANs or WANs or a LAN and its ISP’s network. Routers are located at gateways, the places where two or more networks connect. Routers use headers and forwarding tables to determine the best path for forwarding the packets, and they use protocols such as ICMP to communicate with each other and configure the best route between any two hosts. Very little filtering of data is done through routers....Show more

Scot Rotruck: Router does exactly what it name implies. It routs infromation from one place to the other. They are used to send information from one computer to the other either over the internet or in your local area network (LAN). So basically internet is a set of servers or computer that have the websites on them. When you go to a website, your request goes to the closest server, then that server forwards the information to another server, until it reaches the server where ! the website resides and then sends the information your way. T! his is all done via a router. So the server is where the information is and the router is a way to get to the server. The servers act like a bus stop and the router is like a bus. i hope this makes sense....Show more

Chris Coggins: Networking is connecting two or more computers together to share information and/or an internet connection.

Darcie Peraha: A computer network is any set of computers or devices connected to each other with the ability to exchange data.[2] Examples of networks are:* local area network (LAN), which is usually a small network constrained to a small geographic area.* wide area network (WAN) that is usually a larger network that covers a large geographic area.* wireless LANs and WANs (WLAN & WWAN) is the wireless equivalent of the LAN and WANAll networks are interconnected to allow communication with a variety of different kinds of media, including twisted-pair copper wire cable, coaxial cable, optical fiber, and various wireless technolog! ies.[3] The devices can be separated by a few meters (e.g. via Bluetooth) or nearly unlimited distances (e.g. via the interconnections of the Internet[4])....Show more

Boris Hadsall: These people are all part of your current network, professional and personal. Keep an on-going list of the names and contact information of the people in your network. Ask your contacts to introduce you to their contacts and keep your list growing. Opportunities to network with people arise at any time and any place. Never underestimate an opportunity to make a connection. There are a number of social networking sites where you can make great professional contacts, such as LinkedIn and Facebook. You can also use discussion groups such as blogs, listservs, newsgroups, and chat rooms to network on the internet. This will help you discover the hot issues in your field of interest, post questions, and find out about specific job openings that are not otherwise posted to the general public....S! how more

Germaine Tieken: It is not so much an interface, but a c! ommand for the interface. The eigrp passive interface command basically stops routers from transmitting any update information to or from the interface. This will result in the router not knowing its adjacent neighbors.Interfaces on the router that are not set to passive will continue to send routing updates and receive routing updates....Show more

Jorge Detlefs: a couple of computers attached physically through nic card, wire, swithch/hub under a system computer(server).they are under must be same work-group & ip configuration..........these we called networking.

Oswaldo Rayburn: router is a device wherby the connection from adsl is automaticly connected and distributed to the port (depends on how many ports it can be from 4 ports-64 ports)....

Refugio Gastineau: A network is basically all of the components (hardware and software) involved in connecting computers across small and large distances. Networks are used to provide easy access to information, t! hus increasing productivity for users. One of the main components of networking is applications, which enable users to perform various tasks. Many applications are network-aware. These applications allow you to access and use resources that are not located on your local computer. Some of the common networking applications include e-mail (sending mail electronically), FTP (transferring files), and WWW (providing a graphical representation to information). The number of networking applications ranges in the thousands, but those listed are the most commonly used....Show more

Aubrey Tirri: "A router is a device that forwards data packets along networks. A router is connected to at least two networks, commonly two LANs or WANs or a LAN and its ISP's network. Routers are located at gateways, the places where two or more networks connect, and are the critical device that keeps data flowing between networks and keeps the networks connected to the Internet. When data is sent bet! ween locations on one network or from one network to a second network t! he data is always seen and directed to the correct location by the router. They accomplish his by using headers and forwarding tables to determine the best path for forwarding the data packets, and they use protocols such as ICMP to communicate with each other and configure the best route between any two hosts."...Show more

Enriqueta Steffen: Linking several computers together to share files and/or an internet connection

Vernita Robberson: router allows multiple computers to work together called a network. it connects computers together and also receives the internet and dispurses it to the other computers.

Mitchel Demry: In the world of computers, networking is the practice of linking two or more computing devices together for the purpose of sharing data. Networks are built with a mix of computer hardware and computer software. In information technology, a network is a series of points or nodes interconnected by communication paths. Networks can interconn! ect with other networks and contain subnetworks. The most common topology or general configurations of networks include the bus, star, Token Ring, and mesh topologies. Networks can also be characterized in terms of spatial distance as local area networks (LANs), metropolitan area networks (MANs), and wide area networks (WANs). A given network can also be characterized by the type of data transmission technology in use on it (for example, a TCP/IP or Systems Network Architecture network); by whether it carries voice, data, or both kinds of signals; by who can use the network (public or private); by the usual nature of its connections (dial-up or switched, dedicated or nonswitched, or virtual connections); and by the types of physical links (for example, optical fiber, coaxial cable, and Unshielded Twisted Pair). Large telephone networks and networks using their infrastructure (such as the Internet) have sharing and exchange arrangements with other companies so that larger ne! tworks are created. thats means NETWORKING IS A network connects two or! more computers so that the can share information, applications or resources....Show more
