Will this commute be too exhausting? ?

Reginald Maxi: Why don't you and Yin just car pool ?

Truman Biby: HI Kate The distance should not be any big problem for you. Given that you have been regularly riding about 2/3rds this distance for quite some time. You may even be able to sprint the whole way. Many people will say it is too far, but there are also many cyclists that commute this far and even farther. (Weather will be an issue of course)The unknowns are how long and how much physical work is involved in your average work day. Adding at least two (probably nearer three with clean up time) hours to your normal working day has the potential to severely limit social activities. If all but 5 km is speed limited at 80km/h, then I doubt, even you could keep up with Yin. Unless Yin choose to drive well below the speed limit to give you a chance. Most other motorists would consider another motorist moving well below the speed limit a nuisance. (could lead to road rage.)I've got no doubt that you are up to th! e ride. I think Yin is right about keeping up with her cars though....Show more

Georgianna Zollo: 33 km is a long ride, but it might not be too long -- that depends on you. No, you probably can't keep up with the cars. But that's OK -- you don't have to. Just take the lane (not sure what the laws are like over there) and let cars pass when it's safe to do so. Make sure you have good lights -- you'll probably end up being out after dark!If you're worried about the number of kilometers you ride in a week being too much, just take it day by day. Commute one day, see how it goes. If it went well, do it again the next day. If you're too tired after that, drive. Perhaps you could commute two days a week and drive the rest?Or perhaps you could take a train or bus or something part of the way, and ride your bike the rest?Certainly, if you do such a commute five days a week, you'll end up in pretty good shape!...Show more

Augustus Sarria: For over 20 years I did! a similar commute by bicycle 5 days per week, plus evening ri! des, and long rides on the weekends totaling often over 500 km per week. As long as you are able to find a route where cycling is pleasant and safe, this is not too strenuous. I regularly rode over 15,000 km per year. The only time I did not ride was in the coldest winter months when I was unable to ride on my regular route.

Lissette Semon: I did a commute of that length for almost 15 years. To ride it every day will take a bit of willpower. I did different things to break it up some and still be able to ride most of the time. The best solution I found was that I drove in Monday morning with a lot of the stuff I would need that week for work and my bike. I would leave the car at work that night and bike home and then bike back in Tuesday morning. I usually would take Wednesday off from biking and drive. If I was enjoying the riding, I would bike both ways that day. Then I would repeat the cycle on Thursday and Friday. I found that for me this kept the ride fre! sh and I didn't get burned out on bike commuting. I also had friends who would drive part way and then ride....Show more

George Dingeldein: You are a sound and fit individual. You shouldn't ride to work, but enjoy riding on the weekends.
