Hwa Waterford: You must purchase a service subscription with the Tivo. They offer monthly, annual, or lifetime plans. Lifetime refers to the lifetime of the Tivo unit - not YOUR lifetime. Monthly is $15/mo, Annual is $149/year and Lifetime is $399.You'll also have to get a cablecard from your cable provider which is another $5/mo but you won't need your cable box anymore.Most cable providers also have a DVR, which you rent for about $8-10 a month and if anything goes wrong with it, they'll replace it, unlike the Tivo, which you own, so if it breaks down you have to pay to repair it.
